Passport to the Philippines Invites Students to Postcard Design Contest PDF Print E-mail

FACHIC is a proud cosponsor of the 2010 Passport to the Philippines.

Chicago, IL

The Passport to the Philippines Committee at the Chicago Children’s Museum is sponsoring a postcard design contest for local students.

Currently enrolled students, from grades 4 – 12, are eligible to submit an entry form and an original postcard artwork.  The aim is to encourage students to express their artistic interpretation of their favorite sites, arts, culture, and history of the Philippines.

The deadline for submission is April 18, 2010.

The Filipino American Community Health Initiative of Chicago (FACHIC) participated at a fundraiser event called “Relief for Asia” hosted by Chicagoland Coalition for Asian Disaster Relief (CCADR). This event was held on November 28, 2009 at St. Thomas the Apostle Gymnasium in Naperville, IL. It showcased live ethnic dance performances, musical performances, martial arts, cultural workshops and ethnic foods. The goal of the event is to raise awareness and $60,000 in relief funds for victims of the recent back-to-back typhoons in the Philippines and the earthquake in Indonesia. The money raised at the event went to the American Red Cross Southeast Asia Disaster Relief Effort.

The Filipino American Community Health Initiative of Chicago (FACHIC) participated at the Chicago Children’s Museum’s “Passport to the World” series that showcased the arts and traditions of Chicago’s many ethnic groups and to provide opportunities for museum visitors to better understand Chicago’s unique multicultural community. During the weekend of June 11-14, 2009, CCM featured the Philippines and hosted displays of Philippine crafts and exhibits, as well as interactive productions by native performers and artists, Families enjoyed the sights, sounds and arts of the Philippines and celebrated the Philippine Independence Day.

 
Parol Program Launched to Aid Filipino Seniors in Need PDF Print E-mail

The Filipino American Community Health Initiative of Chicago in collaboration with the Filipino American Network brought Christmas cheer to Filipino seniors living in the Chicago area with the Parol Senior Gift Basket Program.  With the help of over 30 volunteers, FACHIC and FAN posted flyers in the neighborhood, sent out Christmas cards, called seniors to check on their well-being and, for those in need, visited and delivered gift baskets of necessity items to seniors around the holidays.

The Filipino American Network’s (FAN) hosted its annual AdoboFest on September 13, 2009 at La Bagh Woods in Chicago, Illinois. Volunteers from the Filipino American Community Health Initiative of Chicago (FACHIC) participated in the Adobo taste-off by preparing a healthy version of this traditional Filipino dish. The name of FACHIC’s dish was Adobo Fresca and it was voted as one of the Top 5 finalist by the event’s attendees.

 
FACHIC and H1N1 Statewide Vaccination PDF Print E-mail

FACHIC helped organize and coordinate volunteers for the Skokie Health Department’s H1N1 Vaccination Clinics during the month of December, which sought to vaccinate high priority populations in the state of Illinois. Four eight-hour clinics were held at the Oakton Park Community Center in Skokie, IL to vaccinate an estimated 5,000 Illinois residents each clinic. Individuals and families that were vaccinated were not only from the Chicagoland and Cook County vicinities, but many were also residents from Lake, Will and DuPage counties.

A FACHIC team lead by head chef Geri Agliplay made a delicious tofu adobo that competed at the AdoboFest 2009 held on September 13, 2009 at La Bagh Woods in Chicago, IL. Made with expertise and heart, FACHIC's tofu abodo made the top 5 by voting from the attendees.
