FASHA ReportThe Filipino American Senior Health Assessment (FASHA) was initiated by the Filipino American Health Initiative of Chicago (FACHIC) to evaluate specific health needs of the Filipino senior community in Chicago and to guide implementation of targeted health education programs and interventions. Our findings have been presented at several conferences including the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health Minority Health Conference and Society of General Internal Medicine Regional Meeting. FASHA findings will eventually be presented in a community health forum and has been used to develop programming and apply for funding for FACHIC’s future programs.
Operation Mango ReportA Chicago-based taskforce named Operation Mango was established in January 2001 by a diverse group of Filipino American individuals who, from both personal and professional experiences, witnessed the need to address and document the most urgent, social and psychological needs of this rapidly growing community. The initial mission of Operation Mango is to become more informed of the community’s needs, with the hope of developing a strategic plan that would address these needs within the Chicagoland area. The Operation Mango Report was released online in 2005. |
May 2012 Illinois Senior Medicare Patrol Program
Many people in Illinois have been receiving phone calls from someone offering “free home services from Medicare.” These phone calls are a scam. Medicare will never call you to offer “free services.” These callers are trying to get people’s Medicare numbers over the phone, so that they can bill Medicare for thousands of dollars in skilled home care services that they do not provide. If anyone calls on the phone and asks for your Medicare number, hang up the phone! Do not accept any services from anyone who calls on the phone or comes to your door. If you need health care services, call your doctor first to get a prescription. Your doctor can then help you find a legitimate company to provide the services. If you have given your Medicare number away to someone who called on the phone or came to your door, report it to the Illinois Senior Medicare Patrol Program at AgeOptions: (800)699-9043.
Mayo 2012 Ang Programang Illinois Senior Medicare Patrol
